BEAUTY BENEFITS OF ORGANIC SUGAR
Where does Organic sugar come from?
Holiday seasons come to us both as a curse and a blessing. The seasonal snacks are heavenly in taste, but they can affect your teeth and tummy immensely. Organic Sugar or Rapadura is raw cane sugar in medium sized crystals and blonde in colour. Organic sugar has different components in it like the essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fibres and phytonutrients that help the body digest the naturally occurring sugars. It is made from organic sugarcane juice.
In contrast to refined sugars, raw sugar is produced directly from the juice in cane. Organic sugar contains about 99% sucrose. This means that it a little less refined than common table sugar, which contains around 99.95% sucrose. Organic sugar is much less processed. The organic label makes sure that the sugar cane has been grown and processed without making use of any synthetic chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers. The natural organic sugar has varying shades of brown colour caused by the natural content of molasses in each sugar crystal.
What are its benefits?
Sugar is also an excellent facilitator in skincare. Here are a few beauty benefits this sweet stuff has to offer us:
1. Natural Moisturizer
– This means that it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So, when one uses products with sugar in them, they help hydrate the skin. This keeps the skin moist from within.
2. Natural Source of Glycolic Acid
It contains an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin and breaks down the bonding of the skin cells. This results in better cell production and hence appearance of fresher, younger-looking skin.
3. Treats Sunburn
Glycolic acid is used to treat sun-damaged skin.
4. Prevents Skin Aging
Presence of phenolic compounds, flavonoids and antioxidants stops the aging process of skin to quite an extent. Sugar is an excellent exfoliating agent. So, regular scrubbing with it helps in removal of dead cells and growth of new cells. This results in the newly formed glowing skin to appear from underneath.
5. Noncomedogenic
This means that it does not clog the skin pores and does not build up any dirt underneath.
6. Removes Scars
Application of this sugar makes the skin lighter and removes scars due to the presence of glycolic acid.
7. Prevents Acne
Organic sugar facials can control the flaring of acne and pimples. As it has antibacterial properties, this controls the flaring up.
8. Increases Blood Flow to Skin
The scrub also aids in increasing blood flow to the skin. It can be used before bathing on the back and legs with a dry brush. Its tiny granules help blood flow and invigorate the skin instantly.
9. Clears Whiteheads, Breakouts, and Skin Blemishes
Due to the presence of glycolic acid, organic sugar helps in clearing these common skin problems.
Potential Side effects:
Apart from its many good uses, it has some side effects as well. Since a person may be allergic to organic sugar when applied to one’s skin, companies keep such content low in their products. Still it is always better to test before going ahead freely. Also, when one goes to professional establishments, it is found that they use products which are stronger i.e. they have higher sugar content. This is because the people handling those products are professionals and can make sure that the use is safe. So one should tread carefully and make use of organic sugar only after ascertaining that they are not allergic to its application on their skin.
