DOES DRINKING WATER HELP ACNE?
Acne is one of the most skin-related issues that is usually faced by teenagers or sometimes young adults. Acne involves the development of pimples and blackheads in your skin due to many reasons, like the accumulation of sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells.
However, many people believe that drinking water alleviates all your problems regarding acne. Whether this statement is true or not, that remains to be seen as of now. However, many scientific experts and skin doctors can provide the correct answer, which will be explored in this article below.
Causes of Acne
Some of the predominant causes of acne are:
Oily Skin: Acne is more common and frequent among people that have oily skin. This is because our skin produces a type of moisturising oil called Sebum. Sebum helps in keeping our skin lubricated and smooth, while also ensuring that it is soft and has a certain glow to it.
However, people that have oily skin tend to suffer from sebum accumulation, which is harmful to the skin. Sebum is released through the millions of pores that are present in our skin so that the airways get cleared and our skin can breathe to rejuvenate itself. The extra Sebum often gets trapped in the pores of the skin, leading to the formation of acne.
Bacteria and other germs: As pollution levels in the world increase everyday, the amount of dust and other particulates in the atmosphere increase. This leads to a rise in the levels of bacteria, fungi, and other germs present in the atmosphere, which often get trapped in your skin.
The pores of your skin present in your face are the most to get blocked by dust particulates and get affected by bacteria, leading to acne and pimples to surface on your cheeks.
Dead skin cells: Most people know that our skin cells are dying everyday, along with the formation of new ones. It is essential to remove those dead skin cells by washing your face with moisturisers daily so that they do not accumulate.
The accumulation of dead skin cells in one concentrated spot will lead to the formation of blackheads and accumulation of bacteria, inevitably leading to the spread of acne on your face.
These are some of the reasons that can lead to the spread of acne in your skin. Other reasons like the presence of allergens can also lead to acne, but that varies from person to person. This is why it is advised that you use a face moisturiser twice a day to keep acne away.
Effect of water on treating acne
Now comes the answer to the million-dollar question – does drinking more water help in treating acne? The answer is yes and no.
Water helps in rejuvenating your skin and increases the rate of new skin cells being formed over time. This helps in keeping your skin glowing and healthy so that you look your best in all situations,
However, once acne breaks out, there is not much use of water to treat it. The only way to treat acne is to use medically prescribed ointments and other pharmaceutical creams that are available over the counter in most drug stores.
However, in the case of acne and other ailments, prevention is better than the cure. This is why it is suggested that you use a moisturising face wash cream on your skin twice every day. This will remove the concentration of Sebum, bacteria, and other germs, along with the cleansing the mould of dead skin cells present in your face. A healthy diet consisting of less oily foods is also recommended, along with drinking adequate water.
